Purpose: Cylindrical or rectangular vacuum-rated tanks for the heated vacuum drying of oil-filled electrical devices. Vacuum and heat are a proven combination for the efficient removal of moisture from devices containing cellulosic insulation found in such devices as pole-mount, pad-mount, power or distribution transformers; bushings; capacitors; power supplies; x-ray tubes; CT-scan tubes and others.
Description: Baron designs and builds custom vacuum chambers in a wide variety of shapes and sizes to efficiently vacuum dry everything from small oil-filled capacitors to large transformer windings. Baron has built chambers as small as 10” diameter for vacuum drying and filling of dental imaging tubes to 20,000 cubic foot rectangular chambers for 3-phase vapor phase drying of shellform transformer windings. Doors: are available in horizontal swing; vertical lift, clam shell and horizontal trolley styles. Motorized and hydraulic closures and clamping can be integrated. Tunnel chambers with doors on both ends are also available. Vacuum Systems: sized for the drying application are provided and designed to manage the water and other vapor load from the process. Heating Systems: hot air circulation, hot oil spray, radiant heating and vapor phase (solvent heating) are available. Baron’s vapor phase drying is the ultimate for simultaneous uniform heating and efficient vacuum drying transformer winding insulation using precise control of temperature and vacuum. Integrated Isostatic Pressing: is available when applicable, to maintain pressure on the windings as it shrinks while drying. Impregnation: vacuum chambers can have integral oil fill/impregnation systems either through dedicated drops for tanked devices or by chamber flood after drying. Baron can provide transformer oil purification, storage and handling that it is dedicated and integral to the system. Solvent Maintenance: for vapor phase solvent is available using Baron VDU series to prevent accumulation of transformer oil in vapor phase solvent and ensure a repeatable vapor phase cycle. Device Conveyances: such as trays for small devices like capacitors; conveyor systems and hydraulic trolleys for transformer windings. Drawbridges for trolleys and air pallets can be provided.
