Low Vacuum Oil Purifier

Vacuum dehydration is the only comprehensive method for complete removal of water from the oil. Through low-temperature distillation in combination with fine filtration, oils can be returned to "new" condition. Purification of oils can be a continuous process based on full flow, bypass recirculation or a periodic clean up of the system, including the oil reservoir. The new generation of Low Vacuum Oil Purifiers developed by Baron USA combines the best features of the existing vacuum dehydration systems with new features available through new technology, such as PLC one-touch automated controls.

Purification of Hydraulic and Lube Oils

With today's emphasis on the environment, it is critical that the generation of waste oils be reduced as much as possible. Fortunately, the technology to provide continuous online purification of mineral- and synthetic-based lubricants has been available for quite some time. By constant maintenance of such oils and synthetic liquids, the performance of the related piece of machinery is greatly improved and its life extended. The secondary benefits are obtained by savings on the cost of oil when its condition calls for replacement.

One of the most common contaminants – and most detrimental to oils and related equipment – is water. Water enters the lubricating system through leaks in the coolers, condensation due to temperature changes, and simply through contact with humid air. Spilled oils are almost always contaminated with water. Water depletes rust inhibitors and causes direct corrosion of the reservoirs and steel components of hydraulic and lubricating systems. Water can combine with gases dissolved in the oil, such as ammonia and hydrogen sulfide, which causes erosion of the sliding bearings.

Performance

The typical performance of the BA-LV Oil Purifier is as follows:

  • Reduction of water content of the oil in a single pass by 0.25-1.5%, depending on the oil inlet temperature, and the type of cooling system selected.
  • Ultimate reduction of water content through recirculation of the oil through the purifier to zero free water content and depression of the soluble water content to 50 PPM below saturation level.
  • Removal of soluble gases and air to 50% of the saturation level.
  • Particulate matter removal: 99% of particulates over 5 micron with interchangeable filter elements having particulate selectivity of 0.5% or 1 micron for lower viscosity oils.
  • Optional acid correction with fuller's earth filter.
  • The mineral and synthetic oils with viscosities from 60-2,000 SSU at 100 degrees (10-450 CS) can be handled with the regular BA-LV Models. Higher viscosities up to 100,000 SSU can be handled by special BA-LV models on request.

The outstanding performance of the BA-LV purifiers:

  • Can be used on both mineral and synthetic oils, regardless of specific gravity.
  • Can break difficult (permanent) emulsions.
  • Collect condensed water and other distilled liquids.

Quality Built into all Baron Systems

All models use modern techniques for removal of water, gases, and other volatile contaminants, including:

  • Use of inert oil-dispersing cartridges and secondary dispersion tray
  • Use of vacuum pump for removal of non-condensable gases. Water eductors are not employed to avoid oil contamination of recirculated water.
  • Efficient heat exchangers permit removal of water and condensable contaminants
  • Condensate collectors gather water and permit selective disposal of toxic liquid contaminants
  • Non-condensable gases such as air, ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, etc., are removed by the vacuum pump in a controlled manner
  • The ASME designed final filter is available with filter elements with particle selectivity from 0.5 to 15 micron
  • Corrective absorptive media treatment is available, such as fuller's earth and activated carbon
  • Optional inlet/outlet heat exchanger to conserve energy (heat) and to lower the effluent temperature
